Addiction is a complex brain disease that is much more than drug use. While drug use itself causes many difficulties in an individual’s life, it is really a symptom of a much deeper underlying problem.
Addiction is the obsessive thoughts (constantly thinking of using or thinking of ways to get more drugs) that results in compulsive behavior (unable to stop using despite destructive results)
that leads to a self-centered attitude causing most people to deny they have a problem or believing that the self-destructive behaviors are creating difficulties in their lives and others (denial). The effects on the addict and family are emotionally, physically, and mentally devastating.
Addiction manifests in many other areas besides the use of alcohol or other drugs, such as gambling, sex, video gaming, pornography, food, and people (codependency). If you think you or a loved one has a problem, chances are there is a problem.
I am an expert at assisting those suffering with addiction and their loved ones to identify what the problem is, understand the solution, and get into action.
