For the family and the addicted family member, life begins to deteriorate as social relationships weaken, children are neglected or abused, jobs are in jeopardy or are lost, finances are in disarray, and in some cases, hospitalization or legal problems occur.
Addiction becomes a reality when the use of alcohol or other drugs interferes with the person’s health, family, job or social life—when one or more aspects of life become unmanageable as a result of chemical dependency.
