of the Treasure Coast, Inc.
In 1958, a small group of citizens who were concerned about the lack of mental health services in our community came together and created the Indian River Mental Health Clinic in Ft. Pierce.
Through the years, the organization has evolved to meet the ever changing needs of the community and in the process has experienced many changes including names and locations.
From this humble beginning more than 50 years ago New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, Inc., has become the primary provider of behavioral health services for adults and children in four counties. We now serve a population of more than 468,000.
Through the years, New Horizons has also become one of the largest employers along the Treasure Coast with more than 300 employees.
The programs of New Horizons are available to all residents and visitors of Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties.
Services and treatment for mental health and substance abuse for children and adults, are provided at the 90 bed main campus, 4500 W. Midway Road in Ft. Pierce, and in outpatient centers in each county.
The main criteria for receiving service is need. Individuals may voluntarily request treatment for mental health or drug and alcohol abuse.
The agency also operates in accordance with Florida’s mental health and substance abuse laws to provide evaluation and treatment to individuals on an involuntary basis.
