Addiction counseling on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
Addiction is a brain-based disorder that can kill or cause severe life impairment. Individuals and families suffering with this disorder are subject to chaos, pain, and stigma.
A thorough evaluation is essential for determining what each individual needs to treat this devastating disorder.
Effective treatment can include a combination of counseling, family support, medication/ medical support, and a recovery program. Addiction has no cure but is manageable through treatment.
Those that do recover find an individual plan that works for them and stick with it. It is my goal to assess your needs, provide individual and family counseling, and coordinate services with other professionals involved in your care.
Evaluation is an ongoing process throughout counseling to address your changing needs in recovery.
For clients who already have some time in recovery from their primary addiction it is often true that they continue to struggle with co-occurring addictions, problematic behavior and life issues that increase the risk of relapse.
If you have ever thought “I didn’t get clean/sober to be miserable” then you may have areas of your life still suffering from the effects of addiction. Addressing these issues in counseling is an important part of maintaining long-term recovery and preventing relapse.
For others, they question whether their substance use or compulsive behavior is a full-blown addiction. A DUI arrest, embarrassing incident, black-out, or remark of a friend or family member can sometimes bring to light the potential for a future problem.
The progression toward increasingly worse consequences can be arrested through knowledge and counseling. If you have questions about your own behavior or that of a loved one, please schedule an appointment for consultation.
